Friedman applied Murray Bowen&#8217;s family systems theory to congregational life, which is outlined in his book <em>Generation to Generation<\/em>. Beginning in the 1990s, Steinke developed workshops to train workshop facilitators in systems theory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I read Friedman&#8217;s book years ago. Family systems theory really does provide good insight into how congregations work. (I feel it also provides insight into how any face-to-face membership organization works.)
