I found some lovely old radios, including these military surplus <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arrl.org\/files\/file\/Technology\/tis\/info\/pdf\/60hb215.pdf\">ARC-5 series &#8220;command sets.&#8221;<\/a> I don&#8217;t know when Dad got these. He was licensed as W2YLY not long after he got out of the service; he might have gotten these while he was still finishing college, but I&#8217;m guessing he purchased these around 1950 after he got his first job (he doesn&#8217;t remember any more).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/forums.qrz.com\/index.php?threads\/arc-5-for-casual-am-cw.322697\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.danielharper.org\/yauu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/BlogNov2615.jpg\" alt=\"ARC-5 radio BC-459A\" width=\"1024\" height=\"689\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.danielharper.org\/yauu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/BlogNov2615.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.danielharper.org\/yauu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/BlogNov2615-300x202.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Plenty of ARC-5s are still on the air, and W1IS is helping us to find them a good home.
