No doubt librarians everywhere will mourn its death, as <em>Kirkus Reviews<\/em> has long been a source of excellent, honest book reviews; as for Mr. Crankypants, he mourns the loss of a motherlode of snark.<\/p>\n<p>So why did Nielsen kill <em>Kirkus<\/em>? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/la-fi-editor-publisher11-2009dec11,0,4325527.story?track=rss\">The <em>L.A. Times<\/em> reported<\/a> that Nielsen purchased <em>Kirkus Reviews<\/em> as part of a trade publication group that included ten periodic; yet Nielsen sold most of the other titles, including <em>Billboard<\/em> and (gag) <em>Brandweek<\/em>. Says the <em>L.A. Times<\/em>, &#8220;It was unclear why a buyer had not been found for <em>Editor and Publisher<\/em> [a trade journal covering newspapers] and <em>Kirkus<\/em>.
