Last night I sat and listened
\nto the rain falling on the city.<\/p>\n
I was sitting indoors, warm,
\ndry, cozy, with work to do. But still,
\nI kept listening to the rain.<\/p>\n
Last night’s rain came in waves:
\nsoft, then pounding loudly on the roof.<\/p>\n
I kept imagining it
\nmeant something — I don’t know — climate change —
\ngreenhouse gasses — some world disaster —<\/p>\n
Last night’s rain was only rain.
\nIt rained and rained and finally stopped.<\/p>\n
I went to bed. Nothing happened.
\nI dreamt — I don’t know what — vividly —
\nAt first light, I came awake.<\/p>\n
The rain melted snow, it swept
