{"id":128,"date":"2005-12-22T23:39:21","date_gmt":"2005-12-23T04:39:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.danielharper.org\/blog\/?p=128"},"modified":"2007-11-09T14:34:24","modified_gmt":"2007-11-09T19:34:24","slug":"update-on-the-little-red-book-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.danielharper.org\/blog\/?p=128","title":{"rendered":"Update on the Little Red Book story"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UMass Dartmouth professors have alleged that a student was approached by federal officials after requesting Mao&#8217;s <em>Little Red Book<\/em> through interlibrary loan (my original post is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.danielharper.org\/blog\/?p=86\">here).<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The New Bedford <em>Standard-Times<\/em> has an update of the story online <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southcoasttoday.com\/daily\/12-05\/12-21-05\/a01lo287.htm\">here.<\/a> The lead for the <em>Standard-Times<\/em> article plays up the fact that the story they broke has gotten worldwide attention. After seven paragraphs, they finally turn to a Department of Homeland Security official who says, &#8220;We&#8217;re aware of the claims&#8230;. However, the scenario seems unlikely.&#8221; Maybe the story is a hoax&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><em>Boing-Boing,<\/em> a widely-read blog, has been following the story, and in yesterday&#8217;s post <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boingboing.net\/2005\/12\/21\/update_dhs_visits_st.html\">here<\/a> there&#8217;s an extended quote from an announcement sent out to UMass Dartmouth librarians saying merely that UMass Dartmouth officials are investigating further &#8212; as well as a quote from interlibrary loan officials who say, &#8220;We do not believe this story is a hoax.&#8221; Maybe the story is not a hoax&#8230;. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UMass Dartmouth professors have alleged that a student was approached by federal officials after requesting Mao&#8217;s Little Red Book through interlibrary loan (my original post is here).
