Church 2.0 Wiki

What is "Church 2.0"? It's a purposefully vague term to describe the next generation of congregations, and it probably involves online church, innovative approaches to organizational structure, and new forms of worship.

Conversation about "Church 2.0" began over a year ago in Emergent Church communities (see Tall Skinny Kiwi's Nov. 29, 2005 blog entry for an early definition, and links to other posts on Church 2.0). But the concept should go far beyond the theology and methodology of Emergent Church....

Doing Church 2.0

Bits and pieces of Church 2.0 are already happening all around us -- maybe even in your own congregation. A congregation running Church 2.0 might have one or more of the following characteristics:

online religious content to serve people who can't/won't come to church, and to better serve existing members
scalable architecture for the organization, including small group ministries, cell groups, or house churches
online governance, where at least some governance is conducted online
postmodern worship, possibly incorporating alt.worship and Emergent Church forms of worship
open-source religion and spirituality, co-created throughout the church

You are invited to contribute to this wiki, and tell us what you have been doing in your congregation. To cut back on wiki spam and wiki vandals, you will need a password to edit certain areas. If you need a password, please contact the moderator, Dan Harper ( danrharper AT aol DOT com ), giving your name, your role in your congregation, and your congregational affiliation. Dan will send you a password via return email. Or simply see the December 13, 2006, entry on Dan's blog for the password.
